Look to Excell for Super League Glory
As
Saints continue their push towards October's Grand Final
at Old Trafford, they are continuing to benefit from
their new Excell UPVC Saints Training Facility at Ruskin
Drive .
As
the quality in Super League continues to improve season-on-season,
and more clubs are capable of spending the maximum allowed
on the salary cap, it is becoming increasingly important
to find as many ways of fine-tuning the quality within
the squad to continue raising the standards, and stay
ahead of the chasing pack.
Facilities
at Saints' Knowsley Road ground had become stretched
by the demands of full-time rugby, and with a squad
committed to fulfilling their potential in the quest
for success, it became necessary for the club to look
for somewhere new to bolster the facilities.
Local
businessman Colin Duncan of Excell UPVC is a keen Saints
fan and his company have become valuable commercial
partners, which this year has included being Jamie Lyon's
player sponsor.
The
Haydock-based company employ over thirty people, and
supply and fit windows, conservatories, cladding and
undertake building work. They were ideal partners for
the Saints, provided much-needed expertise in specialist
areas.
Colin
Duncan was approached to provide knowledge and assistance,
and agreed to manage the project alongside Saints personnel.
The
site at Ruskin Drive was chosen from a number of options,
and work got underway during the close season. The completed
facility provides an off-site base away from Knowsley
Road that allows the very best opportunities for the
Saints squad to maximise their potential, both in the
gym and on the training field. It comprises a state
of the art gymnasium, physiotherapy facilities, offices
for the coaching staff, training pitch, along with changing
rooms and rest areas.
Saints
Strength and Conditioning Coach, Apollo Perelini, who
played a key role in the project said: “The players
really love the new facility because it has been specially
designed for them to be able to focus on their preparations.
Everything they need is in one place: the gym, the training
pitch and places to relax. It has been a tremendous
effort from all those involved, in particular Colin
Duncan who has done a fantastic job, to make this a
facility the Club can be proud of.”
Excell
UPVC provided substantial investment for the project
which is expected to be an important tool in the development
of the first-team squad, and the Saints Academy players
as they progress through the ranks on their way to Super
League action.
